Cost
Affordable GTO solvers: what each route really costs
Four ways to study with solver output, from free upwards, with the costs that do not appear on the price tag. Prices checked 16 September 2026 and sourced at the bottom.
Free, with no account: published solver output
The cheapest useful thing is not a solver at all. Most of what a beginner or intermediate player needs from one is a set of frequencies that have already been computed, and those are published. On this site, free and without signing in:
- Push/fold charts · jam-or-fold by stack and seat
- Opening ranges · cash and tournament first-in
- Blind defense · call, 3-bet or fold vs every opener
- Flop c-bet charts · frequency and size by texture
- 169 starting hands · how each plays from each seat
- Equity calculator · with solver ranges built in
If your study is "what should I open from the cutoff at 40 big blinds" or "how often should I c-bet this flop", that is answered above at no cost. Paying for a solver to answer it is paying for a lookup you already have.
Free, with an account: a daily allowance
The published charts stop where your own hand starts. A free plan with a daily allowance is the cheapest way to get past that: BeyondGTO's gives you three AI solves, fifty graded drill hands and two Solver Library spots per side a day, a sample GTO Report and unlimited hand recording, with no card, after a first week of Pro with everything open. It does not expire. Details on the free plan page.
Three solves a day is roughly one hand history reviewed properly per session, which is more study than most players actually do.
A one-time desktop licence
GTO+ is a one-time $75 and PioSolver runs $249 for Pro or $475 for Edge. Against a subscription those look decisive, and for the right person they are: you own it, it does not renew, and you have complete control of the tree.
The cost that is missing is the machine. A local solver is bounded by RAM and core count — they decide how large a tree you can solve and how long you wait for each one. On a laptop you will be solving small trees slowly. Adding a capable desktop to the licence puts the true entry cost well above a year of any subscription on this page, so the honest comparison is "licence plus hardware" against "subscription", not licence against subscription.
They are also Windows software with interfaces built for people who already know what they want. That is a time cost, and it is real.
A cloud subscription
Cloud tools remove the hardware question: the solving happens on someone else's machines and the interface runs in a browser, including on a phone. You are renting rather than owning, which is the honest downside.
Within the category, the thing to compare is not only the headline price but what the price gates. GTO Wizard sells 4 tiers from $49 a month above a free plan, priced per format, so NLH cash and NLH tournaments are separate subscriptions and custom aggregated reports are metered in credits on top. BeyondGTO's Pro is $39.99 a month, or $29.17 billed annually, covering every format and every feature, and Drills at $14.99 a month covers unlimited graded drill hands only. The alternatives page lays the field out in a table.
The four routes, costed
| Route | Sticker price | Hidden cost | Right for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Published charts | $0 | None | Preflop and standard c-bet study |
| Free plan | $0 | Daily allowance | Reviewing your own hands, a few a day |
| Desktop licence | $75–$475 once | A capable Windows machine | Custom research, if you have the hardware |
| Cloud subscription | $14.99–$289/mo | Tiering and per-format pricing, where it applies | Regular study without owning hardware |
Are the cheap ones worse?
Not at the level of the mathematics. Given the same tree and enough time, solvers converge to the same equilibrium; a more expensive one does not find a different, better answer. What money buys is speed, the size of tree you can handle, the interface, and how much has been pre-solved so you do not have to wait.
Which means the real question is not accuracy but how much work you want done in advance — and for a large share of players the honest answer is that the free published output plus a handful of solves a day covers it.

Questions
- What is the cheapest way to study with a solver?
- Free, if the published output is enough: the chart library on this site — opening ranges, push/fold charts, blind defense, c-bet frequencies and all 169 starting hands — is solver output and needs no account. Past that, a free plan with a daily allowance costs nothing, and a single subscription is cheaper than a desktop licence once you count the machine it needs.
- Is a one-time licence cheaper than a subscription?
- On the sticker, yes — GTO+ is a one-time $75 and PioSolver Pro $249. In practice you are also buying the computer to run them on, and a solver is bounded by RAM and cores, so the real figure is the licence plus a machine you would not otherwise own.
- Are cheap solvers less accurate?
- Not inherently. A solver converges to the same equilibrium given the same tree and enough time; what the money buys is speed, tree size, interface and pre-solved breadth. Price differences are mostly about how much work has been done for you in advance.
- Do I need a solver at all?
- If you are working on preflop ranges and standard c-bet spots, published charts cover it and cost nothing. A solver earns its price when you need your own board, your own ranges and your own stack depth.
